Charly Wai Feldman

BAFTA 2021 NOMINEE

Charly has a track record of tackling sensitive and complex stories, as both a documentary director and producer.  Born in Canada, raised in Vietnam and currently based between Montreal, Singapore and London UK, she has made films in over 20 countries, many with international distribution. 

 

A McGill University graduate, her background is in current affairs films for television, ranging from women trafficking in Vietnam (Bargain Brides) to the 2015 Nepal Earthquake (The Day the Earth Shook) and the 2016 elections in Myanmar (Myanmar Decides). More recently, she has branched out into series such as HBO’s four-part murder mystery The Talwars:Behind Closed Doors, and independent feature documentaries such as the Great Green Wall with Malian musician and activist Inna Modja - both multiple award winning films. She is currently in production on a feature documentary about champion swimmer turned refugee/hero/accused criminal Sara Mardini. This latest film was selected for Hot Docs Deal Makers in 2019 and Sheffield Doc/Fest Meat Market in 2020 and is scheduled for release at the end of 2021.

 

Charly is also a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, and committed to creating more inclusive environments in the documentary industry.
